Loy Krathong is a festival on the evening of the full moon of the 12th month in Thai lunar calendar to thank the Goddess of Water, Ganga and a symbol of letting go of all negative thought. The celebration includes making decorated basket from banana tree trunk, banana leaves, flowers, candles and incense sticks, then floated them on a river, launching Lanna-style sky lanterns. Sometimes there are firework shows and beauty contest “Noppamas Queen Contests” too.
We alway decorating home with lanterns in this month. (They have a lot of color, style and size.)
Around the Old Town and Nawarat bridge will have a traffic jam and loud noises because a lot of people usually throw firecrackers and enjoy the festival (Contests, Shows and etc.).
Check out the schedule of Loy Krathong 2017 below Schedule
Display of firework from Nawarat bridge.
Around 4 gates of Ku Muang.
At Three Kings Monument.
I love to do this so much when I was young.
For people who don’t like stay among the crowd. I prefer to sightseeing the city view from Doi Suthep (Must go there before 7pm. because Competent Official will not allow you to go up there because it is too dark and dangerous for tourist.).
Temples near waterside also have their own celebration. They have almost everything like a ceremony by government but smaller scale, however you can perform Thai folk dance with woman dancers. (Mostly, they are old lady but you will enjoy your dance.)
After you’re done Loy Krathong, come and stay with us at Nasaraan. >>Book Now<<
